The Emotional Freedom Technique (also known as 'Tapping' or EFT), is a relatively new therapy which has shown positive results.

It is a combination of Ancient Chinese Acupressure and Modern Psychology. EFT Tapping helps us tune in to the negative patterns that we form around our uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, or troubling memories by tapping on the correct pressure points (known as meridians) while bringing the thoughts or emotions to mind. This helps reprogram the brain and allows positive energy to flow. The aim is to find relief, relaxation, and promote healing around the emotional or physical issues that hold us back..

EFT can help you to overcome a variety of issues such as phobias, addictions, pain, help with weight loss and much more. It is particularly beneficial for anxiety and stress.

Latest research shows that Tapping sends a calming signal to the amygdala of the brain. This helps the body start to feel safe and relaxed allowing the stress and anxiety to be reduced or eradicated completely. It has also been shown that Tapping reduces cortisol levels. So by using EFT you can reduce the damaging effects of stress on the body. EFT also boosts the immune system.

EFT can help to re-align the mind, body and spirit.  It enables you to address and let go of negative emotions which can harm the body. By dealing with the underlying emotional issues the body is brought back into balance giving you the ability to move forward in your life.

Although EFT is easy to learn and practice on your own, an EFT Practitioner can:

  • Provide guidance and a safe space for you to explore and clear negative emotions.

  • Help you identify and clear any healing blocks you may have.

  • Formulate suitable EFT Tapping statements with you to help clear issues.

  • Help keep you on track with your Tapping.

  • Teach you how to confidently use Tapping techniques on your own, keeping you in control.

EFT  Frequently Asked Questions

Is EFT Safe?

EFT is believed to be completely safe and there are no known negative side effects.

Do I have to believe in it for it to work?

EFT works whether you believe in it or not. Most people find that as they start getting results they start to believe in the process even if they didn’t in the beginning.

Does EFT treat medical problems?

EFT is considered a complementary therapy and as such does not replace qualified medical advice and treatment when needed.

Does EFT help with cancer?

EFT can support medical treatment by neutralizing negative emotions and stress. With reduced stress, anxiety, and fear you can often respond better to treatments.

Can EFT work if my problem has existed for along time?

EFT can be effective even if you’ve had a problem for many years. Many people with lifetime problems believe that EFT won’t work because nothing else has but it is always worth a try and the outcome is often positive.

Can I use EFT on my own

One of the great advantages of EFT is that it is a tool that you can learn to use yourself to support you through the stressful moments of everyday life.

Can EFT be used during pregnancy

Pregnancy can be an emotional and sometimes stressful time. EFT can help you feel safe and supported, it reduces stress, it can reduce nausea, reduce pain and helps you work through many more challenges even after giving birth.

Will EFT work with Children?

EFT works well with children. It is gentle, quick and can be light hearted. For younger children a Teddy Bear can be used to help them with the tapping points.

What can I expect to occur during an EFT session?

The first session will introduce you to EFT and the tapping points and establish the issues you want to address. Then a typical session involves you copying the practitioner by tapping with two or more fingers on special points on your body such as on your face and hands, while you repeat certain phrases constructed to help you release negative emotions that contribute to your issue.

How Many Sessions do I need to have?

Usually 3 sessions is all that is needed and you should then be in a position to use EFT on yourself in the future whenever you need it. Deeper or more complex issues may take a little longer to uncover and resolve. Anyone who has a history of mental health issues is strongly advised to seek the help from a professional in mental health issues.
